LEVELS OF PLAY - 2011

JUNIOR VARSITY

This team is designed to develop freshmen and sophomores to eventually play at the varsity level. At this level playing time is earned through responsibility, sportsmanship, diligent practice, dedication, work ethic, technical and tactical awareness and functional capability of each player. It is the goal of the Colchester boys’ soccer program to provide every player with appropriate playing time in each game. Players must be able to show functional competence. Emphasis on development of individual and team skills is taught. Technical and tactical team play is also taught. An extremely competitive Metro League, Division I schedule is played. Players are being trained for varsity level competition and must be willing and able to handle the demands of such training.

VARSITY

This team will be selected based on an open tryout of all juniors and seniors. Sophomores or freshmen who feel they are at the appropriate social, technical, and physical level of play can also try out for Varsity. Approximately 18 – 22 players will be selected for this team. Players at this level must be able to mentally and physically handle a very demanding Metro League, Division I schedule, including post season play. It is expected that all players are physically soccer fit and physically capable of varsity level play. All players must exhibit proper work ethic, respect, dedication and sportsmanship. Players must be technically and tactically sound, and have taken the necessary developmental stages to prepare themselves for varsity competition.
